Shaw Day is an opportunity for churches and members to recommit their support through financial gifts as well as the offering of volunteer services in the area of student recruitment, fundraising, mentorship, and community advocacy work on behalf of Shaw University.

Since Shaw University’s founding, the institution has continued to celebrate its connection with the Baptist Church. In recent history, "Shaw Day" observances have been established and held annually at partner churches in efforts to showcase the Shaw University product by demonstrating how the support of partner churches and its membership has contributed to the overall success of the institution and its students.

The purpose is to raise funds for Shaw University and to bring Alumni and friends together. 

Shaw University started in December 1865 with a Bible class for newly freed slaves in Raleigh, NC. Fighting vicious prejudice in the aftermath of the Civil War and the Jim Crow South, Shaw rose to become a co-educational college, a medical school, a law school & a divinity school.

The Union Missionary Baptist Church is located at 2470 Bruce Street in Lithonia, Ga.  From Atlanta to Lithonia is 19 miles to drive. You can also view the service via Facebook Live (TBA) or YouTube Live (TBA).  The church's website is http://www.umbclithonia.org.  

Saturday afternoon: 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. - Alumni Cookout at the Yellow River Park in Stone Mountain, GA. Location is 3232 Juhan Rd, Stone Mountain, GA 30087

Saturday morning from 10 am - to 12 pm., April 27, we will have a hybrid prayer breakfast via Zoom (TBA). Breakfast will be in the Fellowship Hall at the Union Missionary Baptist Church in Lithonia, GA.  The website is Union Missionary Baptist Church - Home (umbclithonia.org)

The Friday night event and Saturday cookout are in-person. Saturday's Prayer Breakfast and Sunday Worship Service are both hybrid (virtual and in-person).

All alumni of Shaw University are eligible to become a member of the Greater Alumni Atlanta Chapter. Becoming a member of the Alumni Chapter is easy. You can sign up here online. You may also pay your membership dues in person at one of our monthly meetings or signature events.

The Greater Atlanta Chapter may offer some programs, committees, and events that are specific to our chapter. As a member of the Greater Atlanta Chapter, you also become a part of one of the largest chapters in the Greater Atlanta area and can leverage this to network with other alumni.
